Sicilian Wine Road

Took an 1hour drive to the town of Randazzo where we saw the Santo Maria church. A medieval town. Best part was ground pistachio gelati. Pistachios are grown on the island. Unlike other family members, any dairy product is a comfort food for me.

Winery is next. Probably won't be drinking top much as I'm on sudafed for the minor cold I got from Joel.
According to our guide, nothing gets done and no one gets elected without Mafia support. Also, all businesses have to protection money.

The average person has little contact with the Mafia, but if you win a lottery or inherit money, our guide says they will turn up at your door and your life will never be your own again.

  1. A classmate at McGill had a boyfriend with Mafia connections, in both Montreal and Sicily ... and she told me something similar 40 years ago.
